Sharing music files has become a trend these days. Some countries have made it legal, but some still insist that peer-to-peer file sharing should be illegal. In my opinion, if the sharing doesn’t involve any profit-seeking business in it, then it’s not a big deal to share with others. Unlike pirated CDs, online sharers wouldn’t ask one to pay for the music files that they are about to download. All sharers’ intention for uploading files available for downloading on the Internet is that they want to share “good things” with others. Moreover, a research shows that most of the downloaders also spend money on legal digital music, which means that they are not only guys who break the law pursuing “free” music. Take me for instance, I usually bought music files on iTunes, but sometimes if the songs that I want to have are not available on iTunes’ music store, I would search it on some other free music programs that had already provided with these songs. So it’s not just for free files that people are using these methods instead of purchasing CDs in shops. Sometimes it’s because the album that we want doesn’t imported into our country or is not available on legal downloading websites; the only chance that we can listen to it is to download over the Internet.
However, many singers, record companies, songwriters, and producers think that sharing mp3 is kind of humiliating their hard works. They claimed that buying the albums would be the most proper way to pay respect to their collaborative efforts in making music. But I think if someone bought an album, listened to it for three months, and then never play it after three months, making it covered with dust. Would you call it as a “respect”? I think good music surely deserves more than that. If buyers cannot make sure that they are going to cherish the albums that they bought forever, then they should only download music files on the Internet. That way, when a person doesn’t like the songs anymore, he or she can simply press delete on the keyboard. Otherwise, if real fans and fakers all have the same album, the real supporters of that singer wouldn’t be too happy about it.
